Analytical services / ICP-MS
ICP-MS elemental analysis.
Measure requested elements in a defined sample matrix. The preparation, analytical method and reporting limits should be specified with the work.
What ICP-MS measures
Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry measures elements in a prepared solution by generating ions and measuring their mass-dependent response. The product or water sample must first be prepared in a way appropriate to the requested analysis.
The technique can support trace-element and mineral measurements. It does not, by itself, identify an intact peptide, establish the form of every metal or replace a separate speciation method.
Preparation is part of the method.
For product matrices, digestion brings the requested elements into a solution for measurement. Water projects may require total or dissolved fractions, with collection and preservation selected accordingly. Difficult matrices and high dissolved solids can affect dilution and reporting limits.
ICP-MS analysis is available for water and product samples, including peptide materials. Preparation and method selection depend on the material and elements requested.
What to request on the quotation
- Element list and sample type
- Preparation or extraction requirement
- Required method or buyer protocol
- Reporting units and target limits
- Replicate, lot or batch structure and sample count
Questions about this test
Is ICP-MS the same as TCLP?
No. ICP-MS is an analytical technique. TCLP is a specific extraction/leaching procedure. An RCRA project needs the required preparation and analysis stated separately.
Is a lower reporting limit always available?
Reporting capability depends on the element, matrix, preparation and dilution. Supply the limit your decision needs before arranging testing.
